Spring Touches Around the Home: Tips to Transition from Winter to Spring

As the days grow longer and the world bursts into color in the Spring, it’s the ideal time to bring that vibrant energy indoors and refresh your living space. This post will explore simple ways to infuse your home with touches of spring.

Clean and Refresh the Front Porch

Living in Florida, springtime is when we enjoy the most outdoor activities. The weather is typically cooler than the hot summer months, making it much more pleasant. The first thing I do in spring is give my front porch a thorough power wash and freshen it up. We'll be spending a lot of time there, so I want it to be both attractive and comfortable for hanging out.

Lighten Throw Pillows and Blankets

Now is the time to replace heavy winter throws and sheets with lighter fabrics such as cotton or linen. I also enjoy adding colorful throw pillows in lighter shades that represent the colors of spring, like mint green, lavender, or yellow. It's important to consider textures as well as colors. One of my favorite ways to enhance a bed for spring is by adding a chunky knit throw at the foot of the bed.

Add Flowers - Real or Faux

There’s nothing better than walking into your home and seeing flowers. I enjoy using both real and faux flowers. The key to using faux flowers is to choose ones that look and feel real, and to select colors that you would typically find in nature. I prefer realistic-looking stems in soft shades like pink, peach, or white. However, you don’t have to go all out; keeping it simple with eucalyptus or ferns can also look beautiful. Decorating with flowers or stems is a fun way to bring the outdoors inside and create a refreshing spring atmosphere in my space. I like to arrange beautiful faux or real flower displays on end tables, coffee tables, or shelves.

Update to Spring Scents

There’s nothing like walking into a home that smells good, especially if it’s your home after a long day. I love updating my scents with the seasons to help refresh the space. For the Spring season, I like to focus on citrus and floral scents like lavender and orange. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with candle warmer lamps which allow me to have my favorite candles without the flame. I turn the lamp on in the morning and set it to be on for 8 hours - not only does it smell amazing but the ambient lighting from the lamp also helps set the mood.
