Update your Bedding

One of the easiest and most cost effective ways to update your bedroom decor as the seasons change is by starting with the bedding. That doesn't mean you have to get new sheets, comforter, duvet covers, etc. It just means that you can chose one piece of the bedding and update it. For example, for me that means I update my throw pillows. I simply took some pillows from our couch in the living room and used them on my spring bed. Throughout the year, I use the same white sheets and the same white coverlet. I find that this allows me only have to update the throw pillows and sometimes the duvet cover as the mood strikes.

I like to start with updating the bedding first because it helps me set the tone for the rest of the decor. Once I have the bedding done, I move on to other parts of the room.

Add Flowers

After the bedding has been updated, I turn my focus on the flowers around the room. This is such an easy way to add color to any space. It can be done with any budget as you can buy real or faux. I tend to have a terrible green thumb, so most of my flowers and plants in our home are faux. Check out my post here where I share my secrets on how to make them look real.

Think Light & Bright

Spring to me means light, bright, and easy. I like to keep larger furniture fairly neutral so that I can always add smaller accent furniture in a color that I love. Since I kept my bedding fairly simple, it allows my mustard yellow chairs from Target to pop. The yellow from the chairs also helps to pull up the yellow tones from the painting and from the area rug.

Let Sunshine IN

One of my favorite things about Spring is the amount of sunny days we begin to get. I love to open my window treatments and let the sun IN! It's amazing how much a little sunshine can instantly lift a drab space. I also tend to be a little more productive when the sun is shinning!

Mirrors

Since I love letting the sun in, I also like to use mirrors to allow the light bounce through the room. I find that this helps create the illusion that the room is bigger and brighter than it really is.
