A Simple Winter Home Decor Refresh for your Home and Wallet!

Do you find it hard to decorate your home after taking down all of the Christmas decor?

I always find that once Thanksgiving has come and gone, I'm itching to take out all of my Christmas decorations and start filling my home with holiday cheer. With that same type of enthusiasm, I'm ready to take it all down once the new year rolls along. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE decorating for Christmas, even more so that I have kids. But I also love the feeling of a refresh after I put all of the holiday decor away.

A look back at 2018’s Christmas Decorations:

A Winter Home Refresh

Transitioning from Christmas decorations to winter decor doesn’t have to be a big production like Christmas can sometimes be for some of us. I find that I tend to so scale back during the winter months, preferring anything that will make my home feel light and fresh to help brighten our home when the day light hours seem so short.

Starting with the heart of our home, the great room (kitchen, family room, and dining space) I like to be selective in my decor pieces as I slowly start bringing them out of our storage closet where they lived for the past month a half while Christmas was in full force. I make it a point to use different decor pieces in different areas of my home as I bring them back out to give them new life.

For my dining room, I wanted to keep the table super clean and simple so I layered these clear glass candlesticks that my husband gifted me several years ago in different heights. The console table also got a little makeover by simplifying things a bit. Using books to layer in decor pieces at different heights while bringing in some color is my favorite way to style this table.

I make it a point to style our kitchen a little as well as it's open to the rest of the great room. Adding a simple vase with some wintry flowers is always a simple addition that adds tons of life.

In the family room you will see one of the biggest additions that we've made since taking down the Christmas tree and one of my goals for our home in 2019: adding plants. I've been wanting to add a large plant to this side of the TV console to help balance the shelving on the other side and I couldn't be happier with how it looks. Not only does the large plant help add life and color to our space, but wow does it make the room feel lived in! Without it, it was just a blank spot that always felt like something was missing.

As we look around this room, you'll see even more plant additions. I recently placed an order at The Sill for these and just love how much they have transformed our space. Suddenly the room feels more alive and I love that they help to naturally purify the air.

Our master bedroom has also gotten a little face lift for the winter as well. I decided to keep my bedding super light and put away our down comforter as we never found ourselves using it in this Florida weather. We layered on a beautiful white blanket with a white quilt and find it’s perfect layering for the type of weather here. I carried on the white theme by updating the flowers above the bed to match. They look amazing against our dark gray walls.

Of course, this room got a new plant addition as well and it made all the difference! This little corner used to be bare, but now it feels complete!

Our home office shelving always get a shelving restyle after the holidays to change things up and to use decor in different ways. I find that by rotating my decor pieces in different rooms, I'm always giving them new life. It's amazing how different some pieces can look in different spaces to make me fall in love with them all over again.

Refreshing your home after the holidays doesn’t have to be hard! You just have to be willing to move things around until your are happy with the outcome. Don’t be afraid to get creative and you will find decor pieces that you thought you were done with have new meaning in a different space. Play around with your decorations and have fun with the process!
