A Christmas Brunch Tablescape + Menu Idea

Can you believe that Christmas is just right around the corner?! Our family originally had plans to travel this year for the holidays so I wasn’t planning on creating a tablescape this year. But since then, we've decided to stay home as I'm 8 months pregnant with our baby girl!

As our plans have changed, we've decided to host a Christmas Day brunch. Read on if you want to see what we have planned!

The Table Setting:

I started with dressing up our small dining table with my favorite accessory, a red scarf. This particular scarf I purchased while I was studying abroad in France years ago during college. It's one of favorite's because of it's vibrant red color and adds the perfect touch of festive for the holidays.

As a center piece, I layered in four CB2 glass candle holders that my husband gifted me several Christmases ago. They are super pretty and I love that they are clear so they don't really block the view from across the table. As a way to dress them up a little instead of candles, I layered a simple round ornament over the top of each candlestick for some extra added color. For a little mood lighting, I also added two of these DIY candle holders (you can see the tutorial here) I made with tea lights. It's the perfect touch of lighting with the green garland in the background.

Have you ever checked out the Dollar Tree for plate chargers? With every season they have a different color and over the years I've collected my fair share because they are just so pretty and affordable. I picked up gold ones recently and I just love how they dress up a table setting. You would never guess that they are from the Dollar Tree! Over the chargers, I layered in a simple white plate and then added some color with some fun snowflake side plates that I picked up from Walmart a few years back. As you can tell, I don't like to spend a lot of money on table decor because I love changing it up every  year. Buying pretty, but inexpensive things lets me dress up my table every season without wasting a lot of money.

On our bar area, I plan on making some home made scones that we can grab as we wish. I layered in a pretty dish towel from some Christmas colors and set my cake stand on top where I'll keep the scones. For an added touch, I set a few small appetizer plates out from the Target dollar spot that I purchased last year.

I decided to leave my blue console table as is, with all the Christmas decorations because the twinkle lights from the garland just make the dining room magical. The Menu

I'm super excited to be hosting brunch on Christmas day for our family that lives in town. When planning the menu, I wanted to make sure that it was going to be something easy so that I could make it the night before without having much to do on Christmas morning. After all, I plan on spending most of my time playing with my little one as he enjoys his Christmas gifts that he would have surely opened before breakfast! :)

Farmer's Casserole

Not only does this dish look delicious, but also looks like it will be easy to make! What I like most about it is that I can get it all set up the day before and just pop it in the oven on Christmas morning. I will report back after Christmas to let you know if this is as good as it sounds! Get the full recipe and instructions here.

Winter Fruit Salad with Lemon Poppy Seed Dressing

You can never go wrong with a fruit salad! I'm a huge fan and I know the rest of my family will truly enjoy this recipe. I love that it requires winter fruits so I don't have to worry about getting fruit while it's out of season. This recipe is sure to be a winner with the kids and adults!

Blueberry Scones

I've made these scones several times throughout the year and my family loves them. They are easy and keep well for a couple of days, so I plan on making them on the 23rd so that I can focus on the other two dishes on the 24th!

Ingredients:

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

2 Tbsp sugar

1 Tbsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 cup (1 stick) cold butter, cut into chunks

2 large eggs, lightly beaten

1/2 cup heavy whipping cream + 1 Tbsp to brush the top

3/4 cup blueberries

1 Tbsp coarse/raw sugar to sprinkle the top

 Instructions:

Preheat oven to 400˚F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

  1. In a large bowl, stir together 2 1/2 cups flour, 2 Tbsp sugar, 1 Tbsp baking powder, 1/4 tsp salt.

  2. Add butter pieces and using 2 knives, cut butter into mixture until you have pea-sized crumbs.

  3. Toss in 3/4 cup blueberries and stir gently to combine. Make a small hole in the center and set aside.

  4. In a another bowl, whisk together 2 eggs and 1/2 cup heavy cream. Pour egg mixture into the flour mixture and use a spatula to stir just until moistened.

  5. Turn dough out onto a floured surface and shape it into a round disk, about 3/4″ thick. Cut disk into 12 equal wedges and pull apart slightly.

  6. Brush tops of scones with 1 Tbsp heavy cream and sprinkle the top with raw sugar if desired. Bake 15-17 min until golden.

I hope you enjoyed this post and that it inspires you to create your own!

Happy Baking!
