Welcome to our Entryway

It is funny that one of the first areas of our home that someone first sees is the entryway and it is one of the last rooms that I have tackled.  I have been going back and forth in my mind as to what I wanted to do in this space. After all, it is the first impression that counts right?!

So after doing a lot of research and a lot of thinking about how we wanted to space to function, I finally bit the bullet and started.  First thing, we painted the walls a light grey color, "Natural Gray" by Behr Marquee from the Home Depot.  I have used this color in several rooms throughout our home and our goal is to eventually paint all the walls in the house this color.  It is beautiful, light and airy, and it does an amazing job at updating the space.  This color alone feels like it updates the room instantly and makes the space feel lighter.  Before the space felt dark and dreary, like it was constantly stuck in a cloudy day.

Next, I decided to paint the interior of the the front door black, the same color that it is on the outside.  I am so loving this look, so much so that I am half tempted to paint all of the other doors in our house black! But that is for another day, another blog post!

By just doing those two things the space looks amazing!  At this point, I was super excited to begin decorating the space.  I was a bit scared as to how to go about decorating this area because for the first time, I did not have a vision of how I wanted the space to look.  I knew that spending money on new furniture was not an option for us, so the best way for me to tackle this area was to collect all the things from around the house that I thought would look good in this space.  I collected it all and placed it together so that I could see what I was working with.  I always do this first before heading out to buy something because I always tend to 1) buy less "stuff" 2) have a plan of exactly what I need/want to finish off the look I am going for.

I had a part of the shelf left over that we DIY'd from the home office. If you missed the home office reveal, make sure you take a look at it here!  I had been dying to figure out where to use this remaining piece of wood as it has already been sanded, stained, and polyurethaned and loved how it turned out. The wood stain that we used still allows the wood grain to be seen, which I love.  So I decided that I would make it into an entryway table.  I got three wood corbels from Home Depot.  Currently, I have left them in the natural wood color but intend to paint them.  I am having a hard time deciding what color to paint them.  Black to match the door or white to match the trim?  Ugh...decisions....decisions!! What color do you think I should go with?

I added 3 watercolor paintings that I got years ago when I was studying abroad in France and had framed.  Added some greenery from Home Goods, candle stick from CB2 and two beautiful picture frames also from Home Goods.

On the opposite corner, I placed a vase that I have had for years and a gold mirror above. I love how it allows for a quick check before you step out the door.  On the opposite wall, I placed this wood clock from Target.

That completes our new entryway! I may add something below the shelf, I am on the hunt for two antique wicker baskets, or two suitcases.  For now, I am enjoying all the open, airy look the entrance to our home provides.

Hope you guys enjoyed this post. Leave me a comment below and let me know what you think!
