New Addition: A Desk behind our couch

One of my resolutions for this year is to stay ahead in my planning for our home and family as well as making time for just me. Seems pretty simple enough but it's been almost a month into the new year and I'm still struggling. So I decided to make a simple change in our home - adding a desk behind our couch - that has made a world of difference in helping me accomplishing my goals.

In our home office, I do have a desk with a desktop that I love, but since the start of the pandemic my husband has been working from home and is always on calls. It's hard to get some work done during the day in there because the kids and dog are always in the background which can make it difficult to concentrate. I had resorted to having my computer set up on the kitchen counter, but after two years, we are still going strong with my husband working from home. As we entered our third year, it has become more and more evident that I needed to rethink my work area.

I wanted a desk that was modern with curved lines to balance out all the straight likes of our sectional sofa, so when I saw this cane desk from Target from the Studio McGee line, I knew it would be perfect. I love that it has storage on the sides so that I can store my camera equipment and on the other side, I can put all my computer and agenda out of sight.

The desk is super well made and feels more expensive than it is. It was also super easy to put together which is always a plus.

My mother in law gifted me this white salt lamp that I love. It comes with a dimmer so that I can set it bright or use it as a night light. I used some of my favorite decorating books to help style the other side with some flowers. But I mostly wanted to keep the top of the table empty so that I always could pop out my laptop whenever inspiration hits or I had some kid free time without too much fuss.

It's been the perfect addition to this space. Since getting the desk, I've made it a point to drink my morning coffee while reviewing my agenda for the day. This is where my day starts and ends as I review my agenda and emails before I head into my bedroom for the night. This strategy helps me feel prepared for the day ahead, without having to rush around as I was doing before whenever the reminder notification on my phone would pop up. I'm less stressed, better prepared, and a lot more organized.

How are you keeping yourself organized this year?
