How to Give Your Winter Decor a Wake Up Call

Happy Thursday!

Hope you guys have had a great start to the year. I've been busy putting all my holiday decorations packed and stored away for next season. As everything holiday related was packed up, I couldn't help but think that our house was starting to look a little sad. So I quickly got to work and went through the house to give it a little winter wake up call to make our home feel fresh and new.

Deep Colored Throw Pillows

My couch was looking a little run down after the holidays and a big reason was that I had removed all the colorful throw pillows! I started by bringing out all my mustardy yellow pillows to play against the blue tones in the room. I also added these two dark blue velvet pillows that I got a World Market before the holidays for $9.99 each! You can't get any more wintery than velvet!

Add Layers to your Bed

As the temperature drops in the winter, there is nothing better than crawling into a nice warm bed. One of my favorite ways to dress up my bed for the colder weather is by adding my down comforter and a pretty duvet cover. I usually keep the duvet at the foot of the bed, but in the winter, I like to bring it up, not only because we like to use it but also to bring in some much needed color. When the days start getting dark by 4PM you need all the color you can get! Don't forget to add a comfy throw blanket as well!

A Moody Accent Wall

One of my favorite, most inexpensive ways to update a space is by adding an accent color wall. You guys know I'm not afraid of using color! But in order to keep from having my house look like a color wheel, I've stuck with using deep blues throughout my home and accent decor. We recently updated my husband's office by painting the wall of shelves a deep blue called "Infinite Deep Sea" by Behr. It's amazing how sophisticated the space looks now. I got so inspired by the transformation that I'm finally happy with how the shelves are decorated. It only took me like 10 tries, but I finally got there!

Add a Coffee Bar

I've been wanting to have a coffee bar in my house for FOREVER and this year with the record cold weather in Florida (and the rest of the country), I finally made that happen. I kept it simple and added a pretty tray to corral some of our coffee cups, DIY'd a pretty sign with my Cricut, and organized everything necessary for the best cup of coffee in a nearby drawer. Making coffee has never looked so good!

Bring in Fresh or Faux Flowers

There is nothing better than flowers to liven up a space, especially on cold, dreary winter days! I love walking into a room and seeing a beautiful bouquet, it instantly makes me smile and brings a little joy to my heart.  Faux flowers can have the same effect if done correctly, check out my post here on how I make faux flowers look real. Regardless, real or faux, flowers will

Dress up your Mantel

Now, I don't have a real fireplace in my house. I know, TRAGIC! But if I did, I would definitely be sprucing up my mantel and setting the scene for a cozy night to sit by the fire. I do, however, have an electric fire place in our bedroom that we love. There's nothing like cuddling in bed, watching a good movie by the light of a fire. Whether it be real or fake, a fire in the winter months will be sure to bring a little happiness to your days.

That completes my tips for sprucing up your winter decor. I hope you found this post useful! Leave me a comment below and let me know how you like to update your home during the winter months?

Stay warm!
