How to Create a Simple and Easy Christmas Wreath DIY
Happy December!
Decorating for Christmas is one of my favorite things to do. Seeing all the pretty new decor at my favorite stores always makes me crave adding to my growing collection of Christmas stuff. As you can tell, it's easy for me to get carried away when decorating for the holidays. So this year I've challenged myself to spend very little in new decor and to use my existing decor in new, exciting ways.
I've taken this challenge very seriously and it's been so much fun looking for inspiration and getting ideas as to how to use my decorations in different ways. One of my favorite projects that I've created so far is the pine cone wreath that I created without spending any money. Yay!
Pine Cone Wreath
This is a super simple wreath that cost me nothing! I was lucky that I had all of the materials already at home. If you are in an area where you have a lot of pine cones, grab some of them and create a fun, easy wreath for your front door!

Materials:
- 9 Pine Cones
- Copper and Silver Spray Paint (not required)
- 1 spool of ribbon - I used one that was 1" wide
- Floral wire
- Hot glue gun
- Wreath Door Hanger
Step One: Gather your Pine cones
A couple of years ago, I bought two bags of scented pine cones because I love the smell. But we all know how quickly the scent fades. So year after year, I have been doing different things with my pine cones. Last year, I decided to give them a little makeover by spray painting them with a later of silver paint and then lightly going over them with copper paint to give them a little interest. Check out my tutorial here.
Step Two: Attach your Pine cones to your Ribbon
Once you have your pine cones collected and ready, the next step is to attach ribbon to the tops of the pine cone with your glue gun. Repeat this step 9 times, or as many pine cones you have. The length of your ribbon will depend on the your front door. I staggered mine between 14-18 inches.
Step Three: Stagger your Pine Cones and attach Together
Now that your pine cones are ready, stagger them in length so that it creates a nice tear drop. Once you get them all in the length that you like, attach them together with floral wire. Don't worry, we will hide the wire in a later step.
Step Four: Attach to Wreath Door Hanger and Cover Wire
Using your floral wire, attach the wreath to the door hanger by wrapping the wire around the hook of the hanger. Once you have your wreath hanging from the door hanger, it's time to cover up that floral wire.
Now it's time to cover up that floral wire. I simply cut a small amount of ribbon and tied it around the visible wire.
Step Five: Pretty up the Ends
So you have your wreath in place, now it's time to make it pretty! I wanted to make the ends uniform so I first started by cutting them all to similar length. I kept the length of the ribbon at about 4 inches from the top of the floral wire.
And that's it you guys! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
Happy DIYing!
