8 Ways to Create a Welcoming Guest Room

Creating a guest room that is comfortable and inviting can sometimes be more difficult that it sounds. Check out some of my favorite ways I make sure to have a guest room that is always ready to welcome guests in!

Linens

There is nothing better than crawling into a bed with beautiful, clean linens.  I make sure to give mine a wash before guests arrive so that they are fresh and clean. I tend to not use any laundry detergent with scents because you never know how others may react to the smell, but I do leave a small bottle of lavender oil so should my guests chose, they can spray their linens before bed. It is always that simple extra touch that makes guests feel welcomed and at home.

Extra Blankets and Pillows

I store extra blankets and pillows in the guest room closet should they be needed.  Everyone has different tastes on the firmness of pillows and layers of bedding so in order to accommodate all, I leave extras to be sure guests have everything they need to feel comfortable in our home. Another cool way to store extras in the room is by keeping them in a basket like seen on Iheartorganizing.com

Make Guests feel Welcomed

One of my favorite ways to prep for guests is to make sure I have some bottled water or their favorite snack in the room. This shows guests that you are not only happy to have them in your home but also that you put thought into their stay. Also, who doesn't like a snack every once in a while?!

Luggage

In order to protect your walls and furniture, I make sure to provide a space to keep and store luggage.  It can be a handful trying to reach into your luggage everyday, so I make sure to leave ample hangers in the closet. I also leave a chair in the room so that they can simple raise their suitcase and lay it on the chair rather on the floor or bed. Another great way to keep luggage off the floor is by providing a luggage rack like this one. Check out the DIY on how to make it here!

Reading Material

One of my favorite things to do for guests in my home is to keep reading material regarding things to do and see in the Jacksonville area. This way, they can be sure to explore any areas of the city that interests them most. I also keep extra books in case someone should need a little night time reading material.

Fresh Flowers

Whenever possible, I make sure fresh flowers are available to decorate a space. It instantly makes the room feel more welcoming and bright and I love the special touch they bring into the room.

Clean Surfaces and unclutter!

There is nothing worse than walking into a space and not having any room to walk around or having a layer of dust on the furniture. Sometimes, our guest room seems to turn into a storage unit when no one is staying in it. So I make it a point the clean it thoroughly and organize before guests arrive. If you don't have fresh flowers, faux ones can work too! Check out my post here on how make faux flowers look real!

Table Lamp

There is nothing worse than getting all comfy in bed with a good book and once you are ready to put that book down and hit the hay, having to get up out of that warm bed to turn off the light. That is why I always make sure to have a table lamp near the bed to make guests extra comfortable.
