Home Office Updates

A room that I have been holding off from showing you is the office.  This room is where all the leftover furniture has been gathered without any real plan while we tackled the rest of the house. Well, the time has finally come for us to tackle the office and make it our own and I am super excited!  Every time I would walk into this room, I would instantly get frustrated because it was just not inspiring me at all.  So for the past two weeks, we have been hard at work, painting the walls, measuring, and planning for some DIY shelves.

We are still not ready for a full reveal yet but I wanted to show your our progress so far.  To start, lets chat a little about this room.  Both my husband and I wanted desk space for our computers and work.  Ideally, we would have wanted separate rooms to give us space for our hobbies but we have decided to leave the other bedroom as a guest room as both our families live out of state.  So when planning this space, I had to make sure to be able to fit two desks in the 10 x 12 room without making it feel cramped.  The solution was to remove the closet doors and put a desk in the space.  If you would like to see the post on the closet office, please check it out here.

We plan on updating the a few things in the closet office.  For one thing, the wire shelving will be completely removed and replaced by a wood shelf, YAY!!! And the white desk will be replaced by a desk that is similar to the one my husband already has tying both areas together. I had previously painted the closet a grey blue and decided to keep it this color to give it some interest.

Last weekend, we painted the rest of the room in the color "Natural Grey" by Behr Marquee from Home Depot.  I love how the paint instantly made the room feel updated and bright once we were finished.  It almost gives the illusion that the room is bigger, which is always a good thing in my book!

On the opposite wall is where we plan on installing wall to wall shelving which is our current DIY project.  We purchased five 2x12x12 pine wood planks and these shelving brackets.  We plan on keeping the brackets the oil rubbed bronze color and the shelves we painted in this color for some contrast and interest. We wanted to keep the shelves on the lighter side to allow the grain on the wood to peep through, so we only gave the wood one light coat and then wiped off the excess stain.  Once they are dry, we plan on giving the shelves a light coat of clear polyurethane in satin for protection.

My husband's side of the office is across the shelving and it is anchored by his desk that he purchased years ago from World Market.  We then hung the computer monitor on the wall to give him more work space.  Hanging the monitor on the wall makes the desk area a lot less cluttered and busy.

Across the desk, we hung a dark grey metal shelf that is in the shape of the United States.  I got this a few years ago from Joss & Main with the intention of displaying some of my husbands favorite things and we have finally gotten to this point.  This shelf is the only thing that is currently decorated in the room.  The decor may change after we finish the wall to wall shelving on the opposite side of the wall but heres what it looks like right now:

And that is it for this room so far! We are hoping to have the DIY shelving completed by the end of this week.  I cannot wait until we have these shelves hung and completed so that I can get my hands on them and start decorating.  Aside from providing storage space, we plan on having a little bar area and a place to store all our books.

Hope you guys enjoyed this update. Make sure you subscribe if you are interested in seeing how it all turns out!  Keeping my fingers crossed to have this room completed by the end of this month, wish me luck!
